The Aidan Foundation is currently focusing on the treatment of unmet medical needs using adult stem cells. In particular, the foundation is funding treatments for Duchenne's muscular dystrophy using mesenchymal stem cells derived from umbilical cord tissue.

About Ryan

Twenty-eight year-old Ryan Benton has lived with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy his entire life. In 2009, Ryan began receiving adult stem cell treatments using human umbilical cord tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells at the Stem Cell Institute in Panama City, Panama.  The Aidan Foundation provides funding for Ryan’s ongoing treatments.

After FDA Approval, Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy Patient Receives First Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Treatment in the United States

Ryan Benton, a 28 year-old Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy patient from Wichita, Kansas, received his first umbilical cord tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cell treatment yesterday at Asthma and Allergy Specialists of Wichita, KS following US FDA approval of his doctor’s application for a single patient, investigational new drug (IND) for compassionate use.
